Why doesn't the BMW G20 on Stage 1 deliver the expected performance? Does BMW underrate the power? Dyno tests, acceleration 0-100, 100-200, and the weight of the BMW G20.

OP OP! Article about chip tuning the BMW G20 330i with all-wheel drive, 2019 model year.

The car in its stock configuration is rated at 258 horsepower. After a few months of use, the owner decided to upgrade to a Stage 1 engine chip tune and later opted for a Stage 2 tune from Bootmod, a company we represent as authorized dealers.

To install the Bootmod3 chip tune on this car, a DME UNLOCK was performed, followed by loading the Bootmod engine tune.

Races F30 328 vs G20 330: the power difference is clear, with the BMW G20 pulling ahead by 2-3 car lengths compared to the F30.

STOCK G20 330i – 0-100 km/h was 6.1 seconds.

STOCK G20 330i – 100-200 km/h was 17.7 seconds.

STAGE 1 G20 330i – 0-100 km/h was 5.7 seconds.

STAGE 1 G20 330i – 100-200 km/h was 17.2 seconds.

The power increase was similar to the F30 328, but the result was not as expected.

DYNO TEST RESULTS: The manufacturer claimed a stock power output of 258 hp, but on the dyno, we measured 277 horsepower.

Stage 1 (95 fuel) – 304 horsepower.

Stage 2 (98 fuel) – 307 horsepower.

CAR WEIGHT: The manufacturer lists a weight of 1650 kg, but when we weighed the actual car, it came in at 1640 kg.

CONCLUSIONS: After the power measurements, we now have an explanation for the modest gain in the 100-200 km/h tests: the factory power ratings were already overstated.
