OP OP! Fuel for BMW Gasoline Engines: Which One to Choose?
What's the difference between 92, 95, 98, and 100 gasoline?
The main difference is the octane rating, which determines the fuel's resistance to knocking.
What is knocking?
Knocking is the spontaneous ignition of fuel due to high temperatures during piston compression. This can cause piston melting or damage to the cylinder walls. It most commonly occurs when the throttle is fully open, and the engine is under maximum load.
Why shouldn't you use 92 instead of 95?
If you use 92 gasoline in an engine designed for 95, especially with aggressive driving, there's a risk of knocking. This can lead to serious engine damage.
What to do if you accidentally used 92 gasoline?
- Avoid sudden acceleration and overtaking.
- Don't overload the engine.
- Drive gently until the next refuel.
Important for chip tuning!
If the engine is tuned for 95, 98, or 100 gasoline, using lower octane fuel can also cause knocking. Avoid high loads to protect the engine.
