The Garage Racer team has completed one of its most ambitious projects — a full retrofit and refinement of the BMW F10 535d. The car is now fully finished: all work has been completed, the technical side has been sorted, and the list of upgrades covers both functionality and comfort.

This is the final stage of the project, where the vehicle is presented as a complete, fully built product — ready for use without compromises.

Purchase story: from petrol to diesel

Before this project, the owner had experience with more than 10 BMW cars, mostly petrol-powered. The main focus had always been on dynamics and sound.

However, after selling the previous petrol F10, the search began for a new car with clearly defined criteria:

  • rear-wheel drive

  • comfort seats

  • no factory M-package

  • diesel engine (in the 2.5 to 3.0 range)

Finding the right car was not immediate. Eventually, a rare configuration appeared — rear-wheel drive despite being listed as xDrive. From the very first inspection, it became clear: this was the exact car worth buying..

Technical condition and initial stage of work

After the purchase, the car underwent a full inspection and overhaul:

  • replacement of all suspension components

  • elimination of play and looseness

  • resolving AdBlue system issues

  • basic maintenance

Special attention was given to the BMW N57 engine — the single-turbo version was chosen as the more reliable option.

Additionally, the following was carried out:

  • AdBlue removal

  • basic ECU tune (Stage 1 / Stage 1+)

  • downpipe installation

The result is stable performance and an optimal balance between power and reliability.



Fuel consumption and эксплуатация

One of the key advantages of the diesel configuration:

  • city: 10–12 L

  • highway (up to 130 km/h): ~6 L

  • high speeds: up to 8 L

At the same time, the car maintains strong dynamics and comfort.

Key upgrades of the project

The project includes dozens of modifications. The main ones:

Lighting

  • replacement of the factory xenon with Full LED Adaptive

  • improved exterior appearance and lighting performance

  • proper operation of adaptive functions

Multimedia

  • installation of NBT Evo from BMW G30

  • touchscreen display

  • Apple CarPlay support

Safety systems

  • KAFAS installation (driver assistance camera)

  • traffic sign recognition

  • lane keeping assist

  • collision warning

  • automatic emergency braking

Comfort and interior

  • interior upgrade to a premium Mocha trim

  • ventilated and massage seats

  • soft-close doors

  • heated steering wheel


Audio system

  • Installation of Bang & Olufsen BMW sound system

  • Enhanced sound clarity and depth

  • Driver Assistance and Electronics

    • Blind spot monitoring

    • Surround view system

    • Side cameras

    • Active cruise control


Braking System and Handling

  • BMW G30 calipers installed for improved braking efficiency:

    • 4-piston setup

    • Enhanced responsiveness

    • Reduced overheating

  • Additional upgrades:

    • Spacers for visual enhancement

    • Updated suspension components

Additional Modifications

  • Windshield replacement with integrated camera

  • European-style mirrors installed

  • Exhaust upgraded to BMW 550i style

  • Full detailing, including under-hood area

  • Underbody protection installed

  • Over 30,000 km of usage without critical failures
