OP OP!!! As you may remember in the previous article we raced with the M3 and M4, but towards the end of the race we realized that the engine had come to a fault....
After seeing the engine situation, I decided to drive myself to the service. The next day the mechanic started to diagnose our car.
Having unscrewed the plug on it we found antifreeze. Cots, injectors and plugs were in good condition. KVKG was also normal. Leak test showed that in several cylinders the percentage of leaks was different.
Further we started to look at the cylinders with an endoscope, where nothing bad was found, the cylinder walls were all the same. There were no chips in the oil filter either.
Then we decided to disassemble the engine... We separated the engine from the body and started to disassemble it.
The first thing we saw during disassembly was cracks in some cylinders between the plugs and the valve seat.
Further it was found that the partition between the first and second ring on the second piston broke, because of it the compression was lost and the engine was running.
По итогу мы имели поршень под замену и ГБЦ с трещинами.
Очень оперативно мы заменили поршень, заменили цепи ГРМ, новые вкладыши, сальник коленвала и так далее. Двигатель был собран на старой ГБЦ и через 3 дня после гонок мы уже завели авто.
We had 3 options what to do next:
1. - Stop at 355 horsepower.
2. - Install forged pistons.
3. - On the same build with used pistons, tune even better firmware and make 400+ horsepower.
The cost of tuning from Stage 2 to Stage 3:
- Stage 2 - 1100$ to 2000$.
- Stage 3 - turbo 1000$, water-methanol 550$, tuning CUSTOM firmware 1200$ = 2 750$
Bottom line: 350 horsepower for this N20 was a cakewalk. 300 horsepower on Stage 2 - no problem at all.
